The Institute for Public Health serves as an important bridge across campus, connecting all seven schools to strengthen WUSTL’s impact on public health. Currently, the institute’s sole facility is on the Medical Campus. But thanks to alumnus and university trustee Harry Seigle (AB ’68) (center) and his wife, Susan, the institute soon will also have a home in the new Brown School building, slated for completion next year.

Four engineering students hope to install a solar power system at a girls’ orphanage in southern India. Senior Sara Chinnaswamy says a trip to India — and realizing a new building lacks adequate electricity — compelled her to try to help. The students hope to raise about $12,000 by the end of July to buy and install the system.

The Center for the Humanities recently hosted WUSTL’s first-ever scholarly writing retreat for faculty in the humanities. Modeled after a successful program at Lewis & Clark in Oregon, the retreat was designed by Erin McGlothlin, PhD, an associate professor of German and of Jewish studies in Arts & Sciences.

Kevin Hardcastle has been appointed WUSTL’s chief information security officer, reporting to John Gohsman, vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer. Hardcastle has worked in information security at the School of Medicine.
